Message from the Foundation Board
A great public library is not possible through public funding alone. The most successful public libraries across the country are products of public and private partnerships which supplement public funds and thereby enable public libraries to better serve all citizens and their diverse needs with excellence.
The mission of the Santa Rosa County Library Foundation is to supplement public library funding for our county library system. If our public libraries are to flourish as indispensable information resources with adequate, free, and convenient access for all Santa Rosa citizens, support for the most urgent needs including new, replacement, and enhanced library buildings is required - and that is our initial focus.
In the midst of today’s busy and diverse lifestyles and activities, the public library is emerging as the “community commons” – a destination place to not only find educational and recreational information sources, but to find networking, socialization, and a sense of belonging. The public library is for everyone – to read, to study, to learn, to visit, to enjoy, – the place to be!
Our public libraries can not become this “place” for our citizens without adequate space – appealing, attractive, functional, and convenient space for all citizens. Our county’s current five libraries adequately serve only a fraction of our county’s growing population. We believe that our Foundation can make a difference and that by the year 2020 every Santa Rosa County citizen should have easy access to a public library to pursue their needs – most importantly – to pursue their dreams and be ready to meet the world as a contributing citizen. That’s what public libraries are all about! Won’t you help us?
